It’s time to dust off your binoculars, and join ACT and Al Sgroi for a few hours of bird watching and identifying. The birds are back in town and registration for this event is open!
This is a great time to get up early and go bird watching, as according to BirdCast, more than 27,000 birds crossed Middlesex County after sunset on May 14 last year. This is peak spring migration time! Visit the site linked above regularly to check out what types of birds you might expect to see daily.
Downloading the Merlin Bird ID phone app by Cornell Bird Labs is also recommended. This app helps identify birds by color, size and behavior. It has Sound ID, which listens to the birds around you and shows real-time suggestions for who’s singing. During our walk we will use this app to help us identify the birds we hear, and know what to look for.
You don’t have to be an expert to join us! This is a walk for all levels of birders, experienced to beginner, but no pets are allowed at this event. We will walk 1-2 miles on various surface trails. Bring your binoculars, water, sun protection and bug repellent. Some loaner binoculars will be available.
Register for the Spring Bird Walk here. Once registered, you’ll get an email a few days before the event with location and parking information.
